The Madacy label's Best of Smooth Love R&B is a fairly spotty affair, heavy on '80s ballads that fared well on the charts. Most of the songs here will be familiar to anyone who tuned into urban radio on a regular basis during the decade, but some of it hasn't aged all too well and isn't worth revisiting. That said, this is still a decent sampling of the time and style, with Freddie Jackson's "Nice 'n' Slow," Shalamar's "This Is for the Lover in You," Melba Moore's "A Little Bit More," and Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack's "Tonight I Celebrate My Love" leading the way.
