Rhino Flashback's four-disc 25 Years of R&B box collects the series' 1965, 1966, 1967, and 1968 installments. Despite the brevity of the playlists, these are all above average budget-line compilations, boasting some true classics of the genre like "In the Midnight Hour" (Wilson Pickett), "Try a Little Tenderness" (Otis Redding), "Soul Man" (Sam & Dave), and "Chain of Fools" (Aretha Franklin). There are far better and more comprehensive soul and R&B collections out there, but for the average listener, it's hard to go wrong with these tracks, all of which appear here in their original versions.
